| I have set up this site to support the parent's of patients that I have seen and help make information about Paediatric Occupational Therapy more accessible to all. We all know how difficult it is to get a clear diagnosis for many medical symptoms. When it's our child it can be frightening, frustrating and time consuming. And whilst none of us wish to label a child often the only way to ensure appropriate help is provided is to do just that. Without a label eliciting support at school or through social or health services is virtually impossible. And with children the need to act quickly is usually highly beneficial. Symptoms spotted and accurately diagnosed at an early age can often be corrected through quite simple interventions. Those problems, left for too long, often whilst the parents attempt to enlist medical and/or social support, can create real hurdles for the child and result in lengthy remedial programmes. Equally, continued support, perhaps intermittently over a few years, can ensure better outcomes for the child. Key to all of this is the ability of the parents to understand what the symptoms mean and to learn to do the right things to support their child. Educating the parents is a critical aspect of my interventions. MissionTo help children with learning difficulties maximise their potential and attain the highest possible quality of learning and living. Site last modified: 24 September 2003 |
